Rational Argument #4

I still need to write the final portion of my paper. I think I am going to talk about one inroad that has been made to compensate athletes. This refers to the NIL, Name, Image and Likeness that was set in motion last year. I have a feeling there will be a lot of information on this, since it is a controversial topic. I will show how men and women will profit from this resolution. I will also write a conclusion to the paper. I will try to summarize my thoughts, and restate the important points in the paper. I will talk about why I feel the topic is important and will make sure I do not present any new information in the last paragraph. I want the reader to know the paper has ended. Finally, I have to think of a title. I need to finalize the Works Cited page. I need to make sure all of my sources in the paper are correct. I need to pay closer attention to grammar errors and sentence structure. I need to proof-read numerous times. Only then can I take a deep breath knowing I am finished.

Rational Argument #3

Today, I continued writing and researching my first point about college revenue and not paying athletes. I researched statistics about how people in general feel about paying athletes. I also researched what prominent athletes think about the issue. I discussed the difference between athletic money-makers and the unpaid athlete. I further researched my second point about injury and the athlete. Again, I used statistics to show the probability of injury and its effect on the athlete. I also found information on the college’s role as it relates to health insurance. I continued to research my third point about an athlete’s commitment to his team which denies him from having a job. This research included the number of athletes who go pro and the rationale that it would be more beneficial to encourage them to stay in school and be able to fall back on a degree if the pro ranks do not pan out. I am also starting to be more specific about documenting my paper and putting together a formal Wor...

Rational Argument #2

In the next portion of my paper, I began to focus on research for the first point in my thesis—the amount of revenue generated by college sports. Again, I was looking for an attention-getter, so I decided to focus on two outstanding football schools, Alabama and Georgia. My research began by finding unique details about these schools. Then, I began looking for support articles related to college revenue in football. I concentrated on “Big Money” details like TV rights, ticket sales, advertisements, endorsements and coaches’ salaries. I found a lot of information on these topics. I furthered my research by researching the same criteria for March Madness, basketball’s multi-million dollar business. Again, I found a lot of detailed information. In both instances, I realized that extreme amounts of money are being generated, and not a single cent goes directly to the players. When I begin writing the next portion of my paper, I will summarize all of this information and begin documenting i...

Rational Argument #1

Initial thoughts about a research paper always seem overwhelming. I began by randomly brainstorming about possible reasons why I feel athletes should be compensated. Then, I came up with an outline about possible points I want to make to support my thesis. With those in mind, I began researching various articles that would give me both general and specific information about my topic. There seems to be a lot of information about the topic. I have begun reading through this information to see what might be important for my paper. I think I have come up with three points that I want to concentrate on in my paper. I will continue to research to see if I can find enough supportive evidence for these major points. I also began writing my introduction. I tried to think of a unique opening to catch the reader’s attention. I then gave some overall information about my topic. My final step was to write a thesis that incorporated the three ideas I want to use in my paper. I’ve also begun thinking...
